Naming Abuja Road in honor of Wole Soyinka has been approved by Tinubu. The artery road N20 from Northern Parkway in Jahi District, Abuja has been changed to be named in honor of Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, according to President Bola Tinubu’s approval.
The approval was granted yesterday during the road’s commissioning, after Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory’s desire to honor Soyinka while he was still living.
Given that Wole Soyinka is the nation’s most prominent dramatist, writer, and Nobel Prize winner, Tinubu said the recommendation on Wole Soyinka Way has been favorably accepted.
“Let me express that we appreciate your significant suggestion to rename this route Wole Soyinka Way. He is Nigeria’s most celebrated dramatist, writer, and Nobel Prize recipient, having elevated the country to international prominence. We appreciate your perspective, and on behalf of the people and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we all embrace your recommendation.
Professor Wole Soyinka’s outstanding literary accomplishments and steadfast dedication to social justice and human rights have garnered him great honor and notoriety in Nigeria, which give credence the fact that Naming Abuja Road in honor of Wole Soyinka has been approved by Tinubu.
The president declared, “Turning this roadway into a memorial to a man who has devoted his life to the quest of truth, freedom, and creative brilliance.”
He pointed out that the strategic project’s completion, which includes an underground wastewater duct system, fiber optics, and numerous other facilities, cannot be overlooked. Given the expanding population of the Federal Capital Territory, he said, infrastructure investment is essential to maintaining the region’s growth and economic prosperity.
His attendance at the commissioning was an expression of gratitude for providing the administration with a very successful first-year landing, he said, praising the FCT Minister and his team because Naming Abuja Road in honor of Wole Soyinka has been approved by Tinubu.

According to Wike’s remarks, the Wole Soyinka Way contract was given in 2020 at a cost of N30.6 billion, and it was finished in four years, without deviation.
Additionally, he boasted that no one could question the president of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) because of the work done there under the Tinubu government.
